Where Community Grows

The Community of Glen Green

The Glen Green community has a tradition of block events in the cul-de-sac at the end of their street off Beachwood Drive. Residents of Beachwood – a bustling corridor for Hollywood residents of both multi-unit apartment complexes and single family dwellings – have joined in on the activities. The community-focused events on Glen Green include being a safe and lively Halloween destination since 1994 and hosting summer parties such as ‘The Glen Green Rodeo’ and local band concerts. Beginning in 2000, the street has had the Trombone Holiday Concert which features up to 26 trombone musicians playing holiday music. The cul-de-sac is filled with lights and tables and the residents bring a folding chair and a dish to pass. The event draws over three hundred locals to the end of the street. In addition, a countless number of Beachwood residents report that they sit outside their homes to hear the music echoing up the canyon.

History of the Hilltop

Maxine Currey was a resident of Glen Green from the time she was two in 1913 until she passed away in 2001. Her father built the house she grew up in as well as five other homes. Maxine was a landlord like is seldom seen. Her care for her tenants and other residents of the area became a symbol for those who wanted to build a respectful and caring neighborhood. One of her great pleasures was to climb up to the ridge behind her house. It became known as Maxine’s Mountain. When Maxine died, her tenants learned that she had bequeathed each of them the homes they lived in. Her spirit of community will be captured with a sign that will be at the center of the Hollywoodland Orchard, “Welcome to Maxine’s Mountain.”
