A Good Turn Composting Event

Building soil is one of the most hopeful things we can do to support ecosystems diversity, build resilience, and mitigate climate change. It's pretty fun too, especially when we work in our communities. To that end, we offer full-day to share techniques you can replicate anywhere there's soil to tend: planter box to acreage, the basic principles are the same.

From 9am-12pm we will be building bio-complete compost at our site in lower Beachwood Canyon. Afterwards, we will work on site until 5 pm, while learning more soil-building techniques with our good friends, The Soil Sponge Collective. There will be lunch and snack breaks, as well! You don't have to commit to the whole day, and stay as long as you like, but we do need more volunteers in the morning.

Wear grubby work clothes, bring gloves, a hat, reusable drink container, and some garden shears for the afternoon, if you've got 'em. We will provide some food and refreshment, but bring something for lunch if you are staying all day.

If you want to help amp the compost complexity, the day before you come, collect a bag of diverse leaves, flowers, stalks from plants, trees, grasses to add to the pile -- just a few bits from each plant. Seeds and fresh grass cuttings are a great help, and if you've got a pet rabbit, we'd love to add their droppings.

RSVP, then we'll send you the address! Please specify how much of the day you plan to participate.
