TreePeople inspires and supports the people of Los Angeles to come together to plant and care for trees, harvest the rain, and renew depleted landscapes. They unite with communities to grow a greener, shadier and more water-secure city at homes, neighborhoods, schools and in the local mountains.
In November 2015, Hollywood Orchard partnered with TreePeople to provide a free Rainwater Harvesting workshop to our members. The workshop was a huge success, and we were able to distribute 85 rain barrels to our neighbors in the canyon. Armed with rain harvesting strategies and a 55+ gallon barrel, our neighbors are able to put water conservation into action so that no drop is wasted. Stay tuned for more events in 2016.
TreePeople encourages residents to participate in TreeMapLA – an ambitious collaboration of nonprofits, local governments, businesses – and you – to map every tree in Greater Los Angeles. By entering every tree's location, species and current size, and updating its needs, we create a powerful tool to learn about our urban forest and its value, including specific environmental and economic benefits.
This information will help us to manage the well-being of our region's urban forest and make our city more livable: shadier, cleaner, safer and more beautiful, and better able to meet climate change impacts.
We encourage you to explore the tree map and add trees in your neighborhood. Together, we can make this city greener.
