Gleaning in Paradise MONDAY August 31st at 9am

Join Us Monday as We Return to Paradise Polycultural Farms!

Gleaning gorgeous Valencia oranges—and rescuing fresh fruit from going to waste.

John Allen and his partner, Matt Van Deipen, are harvesting acres of delicious Valencia oranges. But there’s one challenge: fruit that falls to the ground can’t be sold—and right now, perfectly ripe oranges are dropping every day.

That’s where we come in!

We’ll be gleaning—gathering beautiful, fresh oranges that would otherwise go to waste and helping get them to people who can truly use them. While we typically provide citrus to our community partners during the winter and spring, this special summer glean gives us the opportunity to rescue even more fresh fruit for organizations including the Downtown Women’s Center and Hollywood Food Coalition.

We’ll meet at 9:00 AM Monday morning in the Beachwood Market parking lot and leave promptly at 9:15 AM for Fillmore. We’ll spend a couple of hours in the groves, enjoy lunch together, and then head back to Beachwood.

And there’s a bonus: Monday is expected to be cooler!

Please bring a sack lunch, something to drink, comfortable clothes, and shoes you don’t mind getting a little dirty.

Sign up below and we’ll send you all the details.

We’ll be carpooling, so please let us know if you need a ride. If you can drive, let us know how many people you have room for.

Come enjoy a beautiful morning in the groves—and help us turn perfectly good oranges into fresh food for our community!
